When my husband is masked and bolted on the radiation therapy table, he sings to himself the words to the hymn, Hiding Place. I have been sitting in the waiting room, calligraphing the Psalm as gifts to other accompanying family members. Nice to see that these ancient words are still a comfort to so many.

HI Karen,Just ran across your site and wanted to say thank you. I've just finished my last of 4 AC treatments and am now in the decision mode regarding Tamoxifen. I sure 'amen' Psalm 1 especially where it says "I don't know how people can face cancer without You, God" I have had so much strength and encouragement with my church, family and friends who have lifted me up daily in prayer! I love the Lord so much and know that He is my support, my strength, my shield and buckler and my healer! God bless you as you continue to bless others. Debby Lee Smith

My name is Edmund Marco and it's a pleasure to sign your guest book. I work for an advertising agency in London. Our agency represents direct marketing companies that are involved in the marketing of products as seen on TV in England. Most of the infomercial products come from the U.S. but then again we export our talents as well. My brother has appeared in infomercials in the U.S. advertising various products. I think it's hilarious that English people respond so well to American products while Americans tend to respond well to sales people who have an English accent!

I just came back from San Diego and had a great time. I'm sorry about your pastor's decision but changes are so hard but necessary for those we love. There is always a season for us to go through. I am looking for a new church too and want to find one to worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth. God bless and keep in touch. Karen learned a lot from your journal. Remember God is always with you! The more troubles we have today means the bigger blessing tomorrow. I to have breast cancer & just finished chemo & radiation & now have fluid build up in boob & underarm. At surgery all the lympth nodes were taken out under arm ,but tested out o.k. I will have a mammogram the 1st of Feb to see if cancer is all gone. But with Gods help I'm not afraid . Your journal is very much needed to express our fears & mate does not want to constantly be reminded that I have the cancer. I will bypass the perfume & perfume soap now & go for antibacterial things. Other pages of this sort is needed for other cancers.---Anna

Basic to the primary prevention of breast cancers is knowing what are the underlying causes. After decades of research, we now know what are the major causes of breastcancer and fatal breast cancer. With this new information, we have developed a tool for use in determining what a woman must do to prevent a recurrence of breast cancer of its first occurrence.

Karen, I was diagnosed with breast cancer on July 6, 2001. I had a bilateral mastectomy with recsontruction on Aug. 9. I started chemo on Sept. 20. I had a "Bald is Beautiful Bash" on Sept 30. I invited close friends and family over to shave my head in a party atmosphere, which turned what could have been emotional and traumatic, into a fun event. If you've got lemons, by golly, make some lemonade. I plan to post my journal with photos. Thanks for the idea of taking pictures of the hair growth process.Coincidentally, I also showed photos of myself as a bald headed baby. Minds of geniuses..........Thanks for your input, and may you feel the loving arms of God carrying you through your journey.

In this guest book on June 24, 2001, Ms. Mary Brassmom, with no basis in fact, issued a caution to the readers about me, Dr. James Coleman. She appeared to be reacting to my post dated May 10, 2001 in this guest book about cosmetics in relation to breast cancers. We have a Web site at www.CancerResearchAmerica.org Our mission is to conduct breast cancer research to prevent a first occurrence of breast cancers and prevent therecurrence of this ravaging disease. The contents of our Web site also contain information to educate girls and women on the primary prevention of breast cancers. I have posted on our Web page title "Who We Are," the personal images of and statements of support by the two highest ranking elected officials in Louisville and Jefferson County, KY USA. Also, on this Web page, it is stated that I endorsements from broad based-community organizations and university professors. I have listed on our Web page titled Memory / Honor the names and titles of six other elected officials in Kentucky who have made financial contributions to help fund my breastcancer research. For all of foregoing reasons, such a caution about me by Ms. Brassmom or anyone else hardly seems rational or appropriate.Ms. Brassmom correctly stated that I use breast cancer guest books to promote our cause, and I have sent emails to seek donations to help fund our breast cancer research. Given our stated mission, the use of breast cancer guest books to promote our cause seems entirely appropriate. Furthermore, it is normal, customary and approproate to seek financial support through email. It would appear that Ms. Brassmom has a vested interest against eradicating breast cancers.

I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THIS SITE. I WAS TOLD I HAD BC IN APRIL 99, HAD TWO POSTIVE NODES, WENT THRU SIX MONTHS CHEMO,33 RADIATION TREATMENTS, AND BECAUSE MY TUMOR WAS ESTROGENPOSTIVE, I HAD TO HAVE A TOTAL HYSTRECTOMY. I NOW AM 48 YEARS OLD. I CANNOT TAKE HOROME REPLACEMENT, I TAKE TAMOXFIN, WHICH, BLOCKS ANY ESTROGEN THAT I MAY BE SECRETINGFROM MY ADRYLIN GLANDS, AS MY OVARIES ARE ALL GONE. THE HOTFLASHES ARE PRETTY BAD, I TAKE PAXIL AND BELLEGERAL FOR THEM. BOTH MEDICATIONS HAVE HELPED. JUST CAN'T GET TOO STRESSED OUT, I THEN SWEAT LIKE CRAZY. GETTING BACK TO THE BREAST CANCER, ON FEB. 1, 2000, MY DOCTOR TOLD ME I WAS CANCER FREE. ONE DAY WHEN I WAS PRAYING, I TOLD THE LORD IFI COULD EVER HEAR THOSE TWO WORDS CANCER FREE, I WOULD BE SOGRATEFUL, AND PRAISE HIM, AND WITNESS WHAT A MIRACLE HE HADDONE FOR ME THE REST OF MY LIFE. LITTLE DID I KNOW THE FOLLOWING WEEK, WHEN I WENT FOR THE OFFICE VISIT, MY DOCTORSAT ME DOWN, LOOKED AT ALL THE TEST RESULTS, AND TOLD ME NANCY, YOU ARE CANCER FREE. IMMEDIATELY, MY THOUGHT WENT BACK TO WHAT I HAD TOLD THE LORD. I KNEW HE HAD ANSWERED MY PRAYER. HE IS SO GOOD, WE ARE HIS CHILDREN. HE SAYS HEIS NO RESPECTOR OF PERSONS, WHAT HE DOES FOR ONE HE WILL DOFOR YOU. LET THESE WORDS PENETRATE YOUR INNER HEART, IT WASMEANT FOR YOU TO READ THEM. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!KEEP UP THE FAITH,NANCY

I am an epidemiologist who has done breast cancer related research for the past 36 years. I have spent several hundred thousand dollars of my own money for the purpose. I now have the key evidence to document what are the major causes of breast cancers. I have been touched by your site - your openness, your faith, humour and postive approach to life. It is wonderful that you will take the time and put in the effort to share your journey with us all. It inspires us and also informs us. I wonder if anyone reading your guest book has come across indoplex as a natural alternative to tamoxifen and if anyone has made that choice. I would be interested to hear from them. Thanks Karen, too - for providing this guest book as a forum for this kind of communication. My prayers are with you as well. With love Fay

I've been diagnosed with breast cancer. The surgeon said I am a candidate for either the lumpectomy, or masectomy. I've heard varying opinions, and am confused. I'm also a little frightened by the effects of chemotherapy and/or radiation. The tumor is approximately between 1 and 2 cm. Anyone have any information they would care to share? I appreciate your help. Thank you

Dear Karen,I'm running in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's annual Atlanta race tomorrow morning - and while searching for some Robert Schuller quotes (I know big Friday night, huh :o), I coincidentally come across your Breast Cancer Journal page. But before I even finished reading the entries - I was profoundly moved to sign your guest book. You see, I'm 30 years old and not a surviver myself, but have been inexorably affected by its disease. My best friend - my Mom - lost her battle with breast cancer at only the age of 53, it will be 6 years this May 30th. She fought it for 7 gruelling years, and was truly courageous throughout her entire fight. But what I wanted to tell you Karen, is that I was so inspired (and a little sad as well of course) by reading your journal. Although I will forever miss my Mom, it somehow ALWAYS makes me feel better to read such courageous stories like yours. You are a true enlightenment!! Thank you for taking the time to share your Breast Cancer Journal with us all. With Hopes and Prayers Always,Elizabeth "Liz"

Cosmetics and Breast Cancer. It is truly tragic that so many women have been and continue to be victimized and devastated by breast cancer. Unknown to most women is the fact that breast cancer is essentially a preventable disease even among those women with a family history of this disease. Because of a gross lack of knowledge or willful blindness, most women appear to be unaware of the fact that many of their daily cosmetics contain a variety of carcinogens. Alcohol is one of the known causes of invasive breast cancer. Alcohol is also the main ingredient in perfumes, fragrances, hair sprays, astringents and many other personal care products. These products are in widespread use by girls and women. When applied to human skin, alcohol and many other cosmetic carcinogens are absorbed into the bloodstream within seconds. In recognition of the fact that alcohol may poses a potential health risk, even the cosmetic, fragrance and toiletry industries have placed the use of alcohol in their products under a self-imposed review. A study showed that chemical contaminants, including ingredients from perfumes, are present in breast milk. Some of these contaminants are carcinogenic in humans. Breast-feeding mothers pass on these carcinogens to their babies. In what appears to be a clear conflict of interest because of a profit motive, many cancer treatment facilities in many parts of world routinely distribute or facilitate the distribution of cosmetics to breast cancer patients. Reportedly, some of the breast cancer patients accept and consume these gifts in defiance of the age-old axiom, "there are no free lunches." Women should take control of their lives and stop leaving the primary prevention of breast cancer to profiteering breast health advocates. NOTE: The medical information summarized herein was taken from mainstream medical journals that are in the public domain or the Web site of the cosmetic industry.

Ladies,It should be of interest to both breast cancer survivors and cancer free women that the Cancer Research Center of America, Inc. now has the scientific evidence to document that the carcinogens in cosmetics and other everyday carcinogens are one or more of the major causes of breast cancer and fatal breast cancer. Our studies would save hundreds of thousands of women worldwide from the ravages of this disease. These studies are the best scientific approach to eradicate this dreadful disease within the shortest time possible.

Dear Karen, as I found your website and red through it, I feld a lot off hidden sadness coming up. In January this year my mother, almost 70 years old, has been told she got breastcancer. But still, I can't realy believe it. I hide for this thought and tell my inner me 'oh, it's just the flue'. All this just because I'm scared to loose her, for my father and both my grandfathers died because off cancer.I still struggle between believe and disbelieve, and my mam doesn't show any emotion about her sickness at all. And that worry's me aswell. Therefore I admire you Karen, to tell your story to the world by internet. It takes a lot off strength and power. That's what I'm sending you from my heart; a lot off power, strength, faith, believe and willpower to go on, and not been put down by heavy and testing period on your path. From the other side off the world, I send you a beautifull rose in my mind, which is so strengh that it's shine will never fade.with warm greetings, rikkie

I would like to communicate with survivors of breast cancer and cancer-free women about finding the causes of this ravaging disease. I am about teaching women how to prevent arecurrence or a first occurrence of this disease. Never in medical history has a disease ever been eradicated without finding the causes first. Please e-mail me.

Dear KarenI have just finished reading way through your journal which I discovered a week ago, and I really admire the way you have faced up to the challenges that you have and are facing. It is so encouraging to read what seems to me an account of Christian faith being lived out fully. The reason I found your diary is because I was looking for some information on cysts etc (metacrawler at its strangest there!) as I have to go for some tests in hospital on Monday as I have found a lump in my breast. Kind of a shock at 27! But it has certainly made me think about things a bit more seriously. You never think that something like that will happen to you. Anyway, I will remember you in my prayers, and please pray for me if you have a moment.God bless,Jenny White

Karen I have received your daily inspirations for some time now and I would like to respond now to your request for prayer. Your request was "as we continue to fight breast cancer." My prayer for you is that your fight be no more of a real battle, in your heart, than a game of chess, and that you access your faith (and whoever may be your guardian angel) to determine your next strategic move to checkmate that opponent..... Thank you for all your inspirations. And may we all live with Infinite Grace, Eternal Love, and Indescribable Joy. Love, Jim P.S. Karen, you are such a sweetheart to share your experiences with us on your own personal website! Your love of the Lord glows from your smile. I am amazed at your knowledge of breast cancer and all the research you have done...also your expertise on the computer as well. You are one talented gal. I wish you the best and you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I don't feel so alone in handling this disease since I found you and others on FIN. My husband and I both have cancer and my husband doesn't want to discuss it with me.....I don't know if he is just scared to accept the fact that I now have cancer as well as he....SO, having someone to communicate with means alot to me. Others don't understand unless they have been there! You are an inspiration to all! Keep up the good work and positive attitude which at times is so very difficult!

Hi Karen this Pooh from FIN. Just stopped by to check out the pics from the Race for the Cure. You and Rick did FIN proud with that wonderful banner, but most of all you did yourself proud by taking part and completing the race. I intend to drop by and read some more about what sounds like an epic cancer journey to me.Take Care and "Keep smiling and surviving" hehehe.Hugs from one Karen to another

G'day! This guestbook entry may be as strange as the encounter you first had with Marco the wallaby. Well, so the story goes...he was my namesake, and it was quite sad when I received the news. However, I'm glad that Boomer has come along - he HAS to be the cutest wallaby i've ever seen. (And I've seen a few!!)From the other side of the world - best wishes and courage. Distance means little when people of good will get together, *specially* when wallabies are involved...(they're pretty good hoppers!)Look after Boomer!Cheers, the *other* Marco. :)

Dearest Karen, I am adding you to my nightly prayer list and I want you to know that you may be in such pain and suffering now, but be assured that God hears your and our prayers for your quick and speedy recovery. Ps 69:29 - I am suffering and in pain. Rescue me, O God, by your saving power. Ro 8:23 - And even we Christians, although we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, also groan to be released from certain pain and suffering.... I am very familiar with you illness as my Mother suffered through it over 17 years ago. Today, there is so much more advances in treatment and technology that I know you will be just fine and soon restored to perfect health. Blessings, Love & Enlightenment, AngelEnlighten@yahoo.com

Dear Karen: Coming across your site has helped me to once again get back on track with my priorities. My younger brother died of cancer a few years ago, and it was a real struggle to find meaning in life after that (he was 11 at the time). After a while, though, it is so easy to forget everything we fought so hard to learn from his illness, and to fall back into the 'rat race'. Your example is inspiring, and reminded me of what is really important in this life- the love we give, and our faith in the Universe and our Creator . Whatever happens, the world is ALREADY better for you being here. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Thankyou once again for being who you are.Ps- I LOVE the tatoo!!!

I think it's time for your cats to move from "barfing on keyboards 101" to hairball in cpu, advanced. Seems the logical cat computer skill progression, although dogs seem to be more adept at developing "endearing" computer skills. My two have moved from "unplugging modem, beginner" through "hair ball in cpu, intermediate" and on to "move mouse at critical moment and destroy image, advanced". Do you suppose it's their way of telling us we spend too much time in front of our monitors?Much love.

Dear Karen, I feel like I can say "dear" as I have the tee-shirt for breast cancer. I have to tell you I have not read all of your journal, but I really don't feel I need to to know what you are going through. My chemotherapy session a few years ago seems so mild in comparison to what you are going through now. I did the cytoxin, methyltrexate, adriamycin thing, and am now on Tamoxifen. I am blessed to say I had a checkup today, and my oncologist (whom I wouldn't trade for a billion dollars!!) stated it was 4 years ago today that I had my first treatment. I had a large 3.8cm tumor with 3 positive lymph nodes, diagnosed in June of 1996. I also had a porta-cath placed, did not have radiation therapy (I opted for bilateral mastectomy), and was scared for longer than I would like to remember!! I cried out to God, "Why me" and got the answer "Why not you" in return. Once I realized that, and realized that how I live each day and not how many days there will be, did I come out of the darkness into the light. I pray you will find a peace about your breast cancer. I pray you will desire God's will for your life. My mind's wandering to so many thoughts now...When I was having chemo, my nurse was the grandmother of a boy I taught in Sunday School. Each chemo session, we prayed for the chemo to seek out and destroy each cancer cell!! Ultimately, I believe it did. I am a Christian woman, but I have to tell you that everything I ever learned flew out the window when I was given my diagnosis. But, thank the Lord, I am healthy TODAY. I am a little apprehensive about coming off Tamoxifen, even though I can still take it for another 18 months. It seems anxiety is a part of breast cancer for me, even when I know I have no control over any of it. One day, I will know all the answers. Well, I didn't mean to ramble on, but I feel blessed to have found your web site. I will get my prescription for Bellergal-S after work. Of course, I need to read about it before I decide whether or not I want to take it. I would love to hear from you if you have the time. If not, I will make a point of checking your site. For your info: I am 41derful years young!! I give you Numbers 6:24-26. Bless you. Nancy
